Filipino Farmers Want Angelina Jolie’s Help

Filipino farmers are looking for help from the actress Angelina Jolie to call attention to the thousands of rural people who have been displaced by military operations. The Farmers’ Movement of the Philippines wants the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to send Jolie, who is a UNHRC goodwill ambassador, to look into the rising number of internal refugees in their country. They want her to see the reality of internally displaced people in their country. More than 10,000 people had to leave their homes because of the increased military actions and threats. The military puts blame on the insurgents for the problem.

They say they are up against communist rebels that have been fighting for a maoist-led state for the past 39 years. The Moro Islam Liberation Front says that for the past two decades they have been trying to self-rule the southern Philippines.
