Lisa Marie Presley Sues Newspaper Over Fat Story

Lisa Marie Presley, daughter of Elvis Presley, has sued a British newspaper for saying that she was piling on pounds due to unhealthy eating. She filed a lawsuit at London's High Court stating that the story was slanderous and degrading. Lisa Marie has recently stated on her Myspace page that she is currently pregnant. She was just about to announce her pregnancy when the articles about her weight were written. In her lawsuit she is seeking an apology and damages.

Doctors Stop Rare Disease by Splitting Teen’s Brain in Two

In the United Kingdom, doctors split the brain of a teenage girl, named Janine Leach, in two to stop a rare brain-eating disease from spreading. The girl has a disorder called Rasmussen’s Encephalitis which could cause up to 100 seizures a day when surges of electricity in her brain could make her nervous system misfire. She went through the operation to stop the seizures. The operation involved cutting away the diseased half of her brain, but leaving still leaving it inside of her skull to prevent the increased risk of blood clots. The operation stopped the seizures but made her paralyzed on the left side of her body. The doctors say that with physical therapy she has the possibility to walk again in the future.

Brain-Eating Amoeba Causes Deaths

It is reported that a brain-eating amoeba has been causing deaths and health scares. The amoeba gets into the body through the nasal cavity and destroys tissue as it moves toward the brain. You can get it by swimming in lakes, hot springs, and swimming pools. It lives in the bottom of the waters and lives off of algae and bacteria. People can get infected when they wade through the water and stir up the bottom of the water. It has infected and killed 23 people between 1995 and 2004. There have been several hundred cases worldwide since its discovery in 1960.

People that are infected complain about a stiff neck, headaches, and fevers. They soon show signs of brain damage and have hallucinations and changes in behavior. There is a very small chance of surviving and the infected die within two weeks.
