Disney Will Test Its Toys for Lead

Earlier this summer Mattel recalled millions of Chinese-made, lead tainted toys and the Walt Disney Company is going to start testing its own toys for lead. They plan to do random tests of products that are already on the shelves and they want to make sure they do this before the Christmas season comes. The tests will begin within the next two weeks and they will test more than 65,000 products of toys, jewelry, furniture, and other Disney items.

Mattel Recalls More Than 9 Million Toys

It is reported that Mattel, a toy making company, has issued recalls for millions of Chinese-made toys that contain magnets that could be swallowed by children and lead paint. The recall includes 7.3 million play sets, including Polly Pockets and Batman action figures, and 1.5 million die cast cars that contain lead paint.

The Polly Pocket and Batman recalls were announced on the Mattel website and the recall of the lead-painted cars were announced at a Conference by the Consumer Product Safety Commission in Washington.

Some Baby Bibs Contain Lead

It is reported that some vinyl baby bibs sold at Toys “R” Us are contaminated with lead. The vinyl bibs which have illustrations of baseball bats, soccer balls, and Winnie the Pooh characters, are sold inexpensively for less than $5 under store brand labels. It is reported that testing found they had lead as high as three times as the level allowed in paint.
