Senator Edward Kennedy Returns Home After Surgery

The senator Edward “Ted” Kennedy has left Duke University Medical Center to go home to recuperate after his surgery. His progress has been well since the surgery to remove a cancerous brain tumor was done a week ago.

He was diagnosed with a malignant glioma last month after having a seizure at his home in Cape Cod. A malignant glioma is deadly and is one of the worst types of brain cancer. He went through three and a half hours of surgery last week to remove as much of the tumor as possible. Chemotherapy and radiation treatments are the next course of actions that are most likely to happen.

In the next days to come, he will most likely be given drugs to prevent brain swelling and seizures. He will also be closely watched for possible bleeding and blood clots.
