Senator Edward Kennedy Undergoes Surgery, Radiation, and Chemo Therapy

On Monday, Senator Edward Kennedy had 3 ½ hours of surgery done to cut out as much of his cancerous brain tumor as possible. The surgery was successful and chemotherapy and radiation will be done next to shrink whatever is left of the tumor. In the next days to come, he will most likely be given drugs to prevent brain swelling and seizures. He will also be closely watched for possible bleeding and blood clots.

The Senator was diagnosed with a malignant glioma last month, which is an often lethal brain tumor, after he suffered from a seizure at this home in Cape Cod and had to be hospitalized.

Senator Edward “Ted” Kennedy has Cancerous Brain Tumor

The senator Edward “Ted” Kennedy was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor on Tuesday. It is expected that he has less than a year to live. Doctors discovered the tumor while doing tests after he had a seizure this past weekend and had to be hospitalized. Doctors say that he has a malignant glioma in the left parietal lobe, which is the part of the brain that controls sensation, movement, and language.

Doctors say that he will stay in the hospital for a couple more days while they consider chemotherapy and radiation treatment. The possibility of surgery was not mentioned. Experts say that he will have three years to live at the most but it is very likely at his age of 76 that he has less than a year to live. He didn’t have any more seizures while in the hospital and was released from the hospital today.

Study Says CT Scans Raise Cancer Risks

A recent study claims that in a few decades, about 2 percent of all people with cancer in the United States might come from radiation from CT scans, which are used to diagnose medical problems. They say that children are more susceptible to the radiation given off by CT scanners and more likely to develop cancer from it. The risk of cancer from a single CT scan is small but it increases with each scan that is done in a person’s lifetime. MRI scans are a safer option that doesn’t expose people to radiation.

Cell Phones Cause Cancer

Cell Phones are microwave transmitters that oscillate at millions to billions of cycles per second. Those frequencies can cause cancer and other diseases by interfering with cellular DNA and its repair mechanisms. The cellular microwaves and radiation even cause rapid cell aging and makes cancerous cells grow more rapidly and aggressively. It is a good tip not to point your cellular antenna towards any exposed part of the body but radiation also comes through the keypad and mouthpiece and affects the brain, ear, and eye tissues. Belt clips allows radiation to affect the liver and kidney.
