Marion "Suge" Knight Pleads Guilty to Misdemeanor Battery

On Tuesday, Marion "Suge Knight" pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery for beating his girlfriend in a Las Vegas parking lot last year. He entered his plea in a Las Vegas Justice Court in a deal that dismissed two felony drug charges and one felony coercion charge. He was also ordered to receive counseling and a received a $340 fine. He is scheduled to go back to court in August for a status check.

Charges Dropped Against Suge Knight

On Friday, a judge dropped the drug and battery charges filed against Marion "Suge" Knight, the co-founder of Death Row Records. The prosecution had discovery problems and witness problems. The district attorney's office has filed a notice showing that it might revive the charges by seeking a grand jury indictment. Knight had recently been charged with two counts of felony drug possession and one count of misdemeanor battery in the beating of a woman in August after police caught him hitting his girlfriend while holding a knife in a parking lot near the Las Vegas Strip. Police found the drugs Ecstasy and hydrocodone in his possession. The girlfriend was not stabbed but she was treated at a hospital for the injuries.

"Suge" Knight Facing Criminal Charges

Marion "Suge" Knight, the co-founder of Death Row Records, is facing criminal charges in Las Vegas that come from an incident where he had beaten his girlfriend near a busy thoroughfare in August. Police had arrested him after they saw him beating the woman while brandishing a knife in a parking lot near the Las Vegas Strip. He also had Ecstasy and hydrocodone in his possession when he was arrested. He was released from custody after posting $19,000 bail.

Knight is being charged with two counts of felony drug possession and one count of misdemeanor battery. He could face mandatory probation and up to four years in a Nevada state prison on each of the drug charges. He could also be sentenced to up to six months in jail on the battery charge.

Track Star Marion Jones Goes to Prison

The ex-track star Marion Jones has began her six month prison sentence on Friday. She was convicted of lying to investigators about using performance-enhancing drugs and her part in a check-fraud scam. She turned herself in before noon on Friday at the Federal Medical Center Carswell, which is on the Naval Air Station. She had until Tuesday to turn herself in. The prison that she is in specializes in medical and mental health services, but it also has inmates who don’t need any care.

Marion Jones Sentenced to Prison Time

Marion Jones, the former Olympic Champion, was sentenced to six months in prison for lying about using steroids and for her involvement in a check-fraud scam. She is also given two years of probation and supervised release. She has to do 800 hours of community service. She was ordered to surrender on March 11th to begin doing her time.

The U.S. District Judge, Kenneth Karas, gave her the maximum sentence under the plea deal to send a message to the athletes that have abused drugs and overlooked the values of hard work, dedication, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
