Rapper T.I.’s Wife Charged with Possession of Ecstasy

The L.A. County District Attorney has charged rapper T.I.’s wife, Tameka Cottle, with possession of the drug ecstasy stemming from when the couple was arrested in Los Angeles last month. If she is convicted she could spend up to a year of incarceration. The District Attorney has already decided not to prosecute T.I. for charges related to the incident. He will already be serving time in Georgia for a probation violation related to the L.A. arrest.

Rapper T.I. Going Back to Prison

On Friday, October 15th, the rapper T.I. was sentenced to return to prison for 11 months for violating his parole. Last month, he was charged with a felony of possession of a controlled substance while being on probation for a 2009 federal gun possession conviction. He has two weeks to turn himself in

Singer Lyfe Jennings Going to Prison

The R&B singer Lyfe Jennings has been sentenced to three and a half years in prison due to a fight with his ex-girlfriend that happened in 2008. During the 2008 incident, he had a confrontation with his ex-girlfriend Joy Pound and kicked the door of a house belonging to Jeff kendrick. He then fired rounds from a gun in the street before leaving the scene in his 2005 Corvette. He was charged for criminal trespassing, discharging a weapon near a street, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer.

Boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. Charged with Harassment

The boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. has been charged with felony counts of coercion, robbery, grand larceny, misdemeanor battery, and three counts of harassment after an incident with his child’s mother in Las Vegas. The woman, named Josie Harris, claims that Mayweather beat her, threatened to kill her, and stole her cell phone during an incident that happened on September 9th. If Mayweather is convicted of all charges, he could face 28 years imprisoned.

Rapper Lil Boosie Indicted for First-Degree Murder

The upcoming rap star Lil Boosie, whose real name is Torrence Hatch, was indicted on Thursday in Baton Rouge on a first-degree murder charge for is alleged involvement shooting incident that happened in October and left one man dead. If he is convicted, he could possibly face the death penalty. He is currently in prison already for a probation violation. Both Lil Boosie and his girlfriend, Walnita Decur, were also indicted on several drug-related charges.

Rapper Lil Wayne Sentencing Postponed

The rapper Lil Wayne was supposed to begin serving his one-year jail term but it has been postponed due to a basement fire at a Lower Manhattan courthouse. In October, he pleaded guilty to attempted criminal possession of a weapon after police found a loaded gun on his tour bus in July of 2007.

Rapper Lil Wayne Goes to Jail Soon

The rapper Lil Wayne was suppose to officially start his sentence of serving one year in jail. That has been temporarily delayed because the rapper has to go to the dentist on February 12th to have oral surgery. Lil Wayne is set to start serving jail time on March 2nd.

Rapper T.I. Released from Prison

The rapper T.I. was released from a federal prison in Arkansas on Tuesday December 22nd. Last May, be began serving his year and a day sentence for illegal possession of firearms and possessing a gun as a convicted felon. After being released from prison, he had to go to Dismas Charities halfway house in Atlanta and will be there for up to three months.

Ashanti Stalker Convicted

A man named Devar Hurd was convicted in a Manhattan court on Tuesday of harassing the mother of singer Ashanti with dirty photos and lewd text messages about Ashanti. The man even sent photos of his genitals and a picture of the home where Ashanti’s family lives. He was found guilty of stalking and aggravated harassment for the messages that Ashanti’s mother found scary and disgusting. He is being held without bail until his sentencing on January 11th. He could possibly be sentenced to spending up to two years in prison.

Rapper C-Murder Sentenced to Life in Prison

On Friday, the rapper C-Murder, who is also the brother of rapper Master P, was sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty of killing a 16 year old fan named Steve Thomas at a nightclub in Harvey in 2002. The rapper was first convicted in 2003 but that was overturned and recently a jury convicted him a second time for the case. He has also been in jail after pleading no contest to two counts of attempted murder in a separate incident that happened at a nightclub in Baton Rouge in 2001.

Rapper Serves Prison Time in Arkansas

The rapper T.I. has to report to Forrest City's low-security federal prison by noon on May 26th. He has been sentenced to serve one year and one day in prison after pleading guilty in March to federal weapons charges. He has a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for each of his charges in his three count indictment. He will be credited for the 305 days of home detention that he has already served, so he is likely to be at Forrest City prison for only two months. Unless there are custody or security concerns, he will be treated like any other prisoner and will be placed in the general population with the rest of the prisoners. When he is released, he will be on probation for three years and will pay a $100,000 fine as part of his sentence.

Singer Chris Brown Pleads Not Guilty

On Monday, the singer Chris Brown pleaded not guilty to threatening and physically assaulting his girlfriend, singer Rihanna. Rihanna's lawyer was hoping that a plea deal could be made before the case went to trial and has stated that Rihanna would testify if it is required. If Brown is convicted, he could be sentenced to probation or as much as five years in prison. In March, he was charged by Los Angeles County prosecuters with felony assault likely to cause great bodyily injury and making criminal threats.

Rapper T.I. Receives Prison Sentence

On Friday, the rapper T.I. was sentenced to one year and a day in prison on federal weapons charges. He has 30 to 60 days to start his sentence and has completed nearly 1,000 hours of community service while warning children about the negative effects of drugs, guns, and violence. He still needs to complete 470 more hours. He pleaded guilty in court last March after he was arrested in October of 2007 for trying to buy unregistered machine guns and silencers before his scheduled appearance at the BET Hip-Hop Awards in Atlanta.

Man Pleads Not Guilty to Hudson Family Murders

A man named William Balfour has pleaded not guilty to the murders of singer Jennifer Hudson's mother, brother, and nephew on Tuesday at Cook County Criminal Court in Chicago. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges of first-degree murder and home invasion. He is currently being held without bail and is scheduled to appear in court again on January 27th.

Man That Killed Rapper T.I.'s Friend Sentenced

Hosea Thomas, the man that was convicted of killing rapper T.I.'s friend, has been sentenced to 66 years to life in prison. He was convicted by a jury last month for murder, felonious assault, and illegally having a gun after a felony conviction. The rapper T.I. had took the stand against him during his trail to say that he believed that the shots that were fired and killed his friend Philant Johnson were actually meant for him.

Death of Singer Sean Levert Encourages New Jail Drug Policy

The death of the singer Sean Levert has encouraged a proposed new policy that provides more flexibility in giving inmates their anti-anxiety medication. Levert died on March 30th of 2008 after becoming sick at a county jail in Cleveland, OH and was not given the Xanax prescription that he had brought to the jail after he was sentenced for not paying child support. The jail administrator and a jail doctor proposed the policy to allow inmates to get their prescription medication as soon as their prescriptions are verified.

O.J. Simpson Sentenced to Serve Prison Time

O.J. Simpson was sentenced to serve at least 15 years in prison for a armed robbery at a hotel in Las Vegas. The judge said that the sentence had nothing to do with his 1994 acquittal in the murder of his ex-wife and her male friend. Simpson was taken away to prison after the judge refused to allow him to go free on bail while he appeals the sentence.

"Suge" Knight Facing Criminal Charges

Marion "Suge" Knight, the co-founder of Death Row Records, is facing criminal charges in Las Vegas that come from an incident where he had beaten his girlfriend near a busy thoroughfare in August. Police had arrested him after they saw him beating the woman while brandishing a knife in a parking lot near the Las Vegas Strip. He also had Ecstasy and hydrocodone in his possession when he was arrested. He was released from custody after posting $19,000 bail.

Knight is being charged with two counts of felony drug possession and one count of misdemeanor battery. He could face mandatory probation and up to four years in a Nevada state prison on each of the drug charges. He could also be sentenced to up to six months in jail on the battery charge.

Rapper Kanye West Arrest in England

The rapper Kanye West was arrested on suspicion of assault after an incident with a photographer outside of the Tup Tup Palace bar in Newcastle, northern England. He was later released without any charges. Kanye West is currently in England as apart of his Glow in the Dark tour.

Don Cornelius Charged with Battery

Don Cornelius, the former host of the show "Soul Train," has been charged with spousal battery, assault with a deadly weapon, and dissuading a witness from making a police report due to two domestic incidents that involved his wife last month. He was arrested and taken to jail last month after the police were called to his Hollywood Hills home after a report of a domestic dispute. He was released on $50,000 bail and could face up to one year in prison for each of the five misdemeanor charges against him.
