Tyler Perry Wins Lawsuit

The actor-screenwriter Tyler Perry has won a lawsuit that accused him of stealing material from Donna West's play for his movie "Diary of a Mad Black Woman." The jurors found that West did not present evidence that supported her accusation of copyright infringement.

West is accusing Perry of stealing material from her play called "Fantasy of a Black Woman" that has been performed three times in 1991 in Dallas, TX and claims that Perry could have accessed the script in 1998 when he presented his plays to the Dallas Black Academy of Arts and Letters. Perry testified in court that his screenplay is an original work. West was asking the court to receive money for damages and profits made from the film, which earned around $50 million in theaters after it was released in 2005. Her attorneys are planning to seek a new trial.

Green and Black Teas Could Prevent Skin Cancer

A study has shown that green and black teas could prevent skin cancer. Both of the teas have antioxidants that help to fight UV-induced damage. A survey done by epidemiologists from the Dartmouth Medical School surveyed 1,466 people with non melanoma skin cancer and 715 people in the same age group who didn’t have the disease about their tea drinking habits. The people who had been drinking tea the longest or drank at least two cups per day had the greatest protection against skin cancer.

5 Year Old Boy Kills 445 Pound Bear

In Arkansas, a 5 year old boy named Tre Merritt was out with his grandfather when a black bear came out from a thicket on the side of the road. The boy shot and killed the bear with his youth rifle. The grandfather says that the boy’s 10^th great-grandfather was Davy Crockett. The grandfather says that he taught his grandson how to shoot when he was 2 years old and says that the boy has already killed three deer. The family of the boy plans to get a life-sized mount of the bear.
