Kimora Lee Simmons Gives Birth to New Baby

On Saturday, Kimora Lee Simmons gave birth to a healthy baby boy. She is a former fashion model who is currently the CEO of the clothing design company Phat Fashions. The father of the child is the actor Djimon Hounsou. She was previously married to the hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons but the couple divorced in 2008 after being married for seven years and having two daughters together.

Actress Queen Latifah Gets Sued

The actress Queen Latifah is being sued by a makeup artist and a fashion stylist who claim that she owes them $1 million collectively. The makeup artist, named Roxanna Floyd, says that she didn't pay her for $700,000 worth of work done between July 2005 and February 2008. A fashion stylist, named Susan Moses, has a separate lawsuit that claims that she is owed $300,000 from the actress.

Model Naomi Campbell Charged In London Airport Assault

The model Naomi Campbell has been charged with assaulting two police officers during an incident that happened at Heathrow Airport on April 3rd. She was charged when she reported to Heathrow police station to answer bail. She faces three counts of assaulting a constable, two counts of using threatening abusive words or behavior towards the cabin crew, and one count of disorderly conduct. The assault was against two officers. She has been ordered to appear at a west London magistrates’ court on June 20^th and she could possibly receive six months in prison and/or a fine of up to $10,000.

On April 3^rd, Campbell was on a British Airways plane ready to go to Los Angeles when she got into a dispute over her luggage. She was removed from the plane and held for eight hours at the airport police station before she was released on bail.

Kanye West and Girlfriend Call Off Wedding

It is reported that Kanye West and his girlfriend Alexis Phifer, who is a fashion designer, have called off their engagement. The two had been dating on and off since 2002.

France Not Promoting Extreme Thinness

France might make it illegal to promote extreme thinness. The French parliament’s lower house adopted a bill that would make it illegal for anything and anyone, including fashion magazines, advertisers, and Web sites, to promote extreme thinness. Judges would be given the power to imprison and fine offenders of the crime up to $47,000 if they are found guilty of “inciting others to deprive themselves of food to an excessive degree.” Judges can also sanction the people or places responsible for a magazine photo of a model whose extreme thinness alters another person’s health.

The National Assembly approved the bill in a series of votes after the legislation won support from the ruling conservative UMP party. The bill is going to the Senate very soon. Last week, French lawmakers and fashion industry members signed a nonbinding charter on promoting healthier body images.

Leaders in the French couture are against having legal boundaries on beauty standards but some people also feel that encouraging anorexia or severe weight loss should be punishable in court. Doctors and psychologists that are treating people with anorexia nervosa are in support of the government being involved in the fight against the disease.

Yahoo Launches Site for Women

On Monday, Yahoo Inc. launched a site aimed towards women age 25to 54 called Shine. The site is made to give Yahoo Inc. more opportunities to sell advertising targeted towards women. Advertisers in consumer-packed goods, retail, and pharmaceuticals have requested that there be more ways to advertise to women and many women are looking for a site to combine various content and communication tools.

The site Shine offers content and services in parenting, love, healthy living, food, and career and money, entertainment, fashion, beauty, home life, and astrology. The site is in blog form and will have the newest items at the top of the page and commentary from an editor.

Kimora Lee Simmons Files for Divorce

Kimora Lee Simmons has been separated from her entertainment mogul husband Russell Simmons for two years but she has decided to file for divorce in a Los Angeles Superior Court citing irreconcilable differences. She and Russell have an 8 year old daughter named Ming Lee and a 5 year old daughter named Aoki Lee. Kimora is seeking legal and physical custody of the children and has requested that Russell be granted reasonable visitation that is accompanied at all times by the children’s nanny and security personnel.

Gap Clothing Store Uses Child Labor

A British newspaper reported that they found children making clothes in a sweatshop in New Delhi, India that the Gap clothing store is running to make clothing. Some of the children were as young as 10 years old and had been sold to the sweatshop by their parents. The children work up to 16 hours per day sewing clothing by hand and some of the children say that they are not being paid. One child said that if a child cried or didn’t work hard enough were hit with rubber pipes or had oily clothes stuffed into their mouths.

Representatives of the Gap clothing store say that they will stop the clothing being made by the children from being sold in their stores and that they will take action to stop the child labor.

Damon Dash and Rachel Roy Expecting a Baby

Damon Dash, the former CEO and co-founder of Roc-A-Fella Records, and his wife Rachel Roy, a fashion designer, are expecting their second child this spring in 2008. They already have a daughter that was born in 1999 and Dash has a son from a previous relationship.

Jennifer Lopez is Pregnant

A lot of celebrities are expecting babies and Jennifer Lopez can now be added to the list. At a recent fashion show everyone was congratulating her and her husband, Marc Anthony, about the pregnancy. In the recent past she has tried to get pregnant but had problems getting pregnant due to a physical condition.
