Lindsay Lohan to Wear Alcohol Monitoring Bracelet

On Monday, the actress Lindsay Lohan was ordered by a judge in court to wear an alcohol-monitoring bracelet. The bracelet receives a signal through the skin if she has been drinking and then sends the signal to the company that monitors it. Lohan also received strict restrictions on her probation that may affect her recent career plans. She has a probation hearing set for July 6th due to her not appearing in court last week for a scheduled progress report on the probation that involved two high-profile arrests.

Conan O'Brien Receives $45 Million Settlement

The late night tv host Conan O'Brien has reached a $45 million settlement with the televison network NBC. O'Brien will get a severance of $32.5 million whether he gets another hosting job or not. NBC will also pay $4.5 million to the executive producer. O'Brien has agreed to not have another hosting job until at least September of this year. His last show will be on Friday.

Singer Kelly Rowland Fires Beyonce's Dad

The singer Kelly Rowland has decided that she will no longer be managed by Beyonce's father. Matthew Knowles had managed her career since she was a child and while she was in the group Destiny's Child. Her solo career has not been going well since she left the group. Both Rowland and Knowles say that they will always be family. Rowland has not said who her next manager will be.

Rapper T.I. Being Sued for Child Support

The mother of two of the rapper T.I.'s children is suing him for child support. She says that she is having a hard time financially supporting the boys and wants a court-ordered arrangement for payment. The woman, named Lashon Dixon, and T.I. have known each other since teenagers and have children that are 7 and 8 years old. Dixon says that he currently gives her about $2,000 each month to take care of the children but she is sure that he is able to pay more with his successful career. Both Dixon and T.I. appeared in Fulton County Superior Court on Thursday.

Singer Mary J. Blige Sets Up Foundation to Help Women with Careers


The singer Mary J. Blige has started a foundation to help women develop careers and increase self-confidence. Its charity will fund scholarships, grants, and programs to help women gain confidence and skills to succeed in their careers. The foundation will focus on the area of Yonkers, New York, first, the place where Blige grew up. It is expected to expand to the rest of New York and then the rest of America.

Jay-Z Close to Huge Business Deal

Jay-Z is close to a $150 million deal with Live Nation Inc. that will give the company a stake in almost every part of his career. The contract covers Jay-Z’s music and music related businesses for the next 10 years. Jay-Z would get a $25 million payment upfront and get advance payments of $10 million per album for at least three albums and he would get $25 million towards concert tours. Live Nation would also pay $20 million in exchange for publishing, licensing, and other rights.

The company is also expected to commit $50 million to finance Jay-Z’s investments and his entertainment venture, called Roc Nation, which is suppose to include Jay-Z’s own record label, music publishing, talent consulting, and managing projects. He plans to leave Def Jam if the deal goes through but he still owes Def Jam one more studio album. He was the president of Def Jam for three years but stepped down this past December because he and the label’s corporate parent, Universal Music Group, could not agree on a new contract.

Yahoo Launches Site for Women

On Monday, Yahoo Inc. launched a site aimed towards women age 25to 54 called Shine. The site is made to give Yahoo Inc. more opportunities to sell advertising targeted towards women. Advertisers in consumer-packed goods, retail, and pharmaceuticals have requested that there be more ways to advertise to women and many women are looking for a site to combine various content and communication tools.

The site Shine offers content and services in parenting, love, healthy living, food, and career and money, entertainment, fashion, beauty, home life, and astrology. The site is in blog form and will have the newest items at the top of the page and commentary from an editor.

California College Uses Roaches to Attract Students

The college UC Riverside in California is using a cockroach petting zoo display to try to attract students and parents to an upcoming recruitment fair. The display will have several species of cockroaches and will include the Madagascar hissing cockroach. The fair is mainly for high school students that are interested in careers as science teachers and engineers.

Nick Cannon and Selita Ebanks Break Up

Nick Cannon and his fiance Selita Ebanks have decided to take a break from their relationship so that they can both focus on their careers. They have decided to just be friends for the time being.

The two met at a Super Bowl part in Miami back in February and Nick proposed to Selita in May in Times Square with a 15-carat diamond ring that he helped to design.

Kobe Bryant Getting Divorced

It is reported that basketball player Kobe Bryant and his wife, Vanessa, are ready to end their 6 year marriage. For over a year they have been having marital problems and Kobe is currently in the process of moving out of their home. Their divorce may not be very messy. They didn’t have any kind of pre-nuptial agreement so Vanessa is very likely to get half of their assets. During Kobe’s career he has made nearly $200 million dollars and he is owed $88.6 million from the Lakers over the next four seasons. He also makes millions from endorsement deals.
