Green and Black Teas Could Prevent Skin Cancer

A study has shown that green and black teas could prevent skin cancer. Both of the teas have antioxidants that help to fight UV-induced damage. A survey done by epidemiologists from the Dartmouth Medical School surveyed 1,466 people with non melanoma skin cancer and 715 people in the same age group who didn’t have the disease about their tea drinking habits. The people who had been drinking tea the longest or drank at least two cups per day had the greatest protection against skin cancer.

Singer Brandy Won’t Be Charged in Accident

The singer Brandy won’t be charged in the deadly car crash that happened in December of 2006 because the jury decided there was “insufficient evidence” in the case. On December 30^th Brandy was driving on a Los Angeles freeway when traffic slowed down and her Land Rover hit the back of a Honda. The Honda caused several other car collisions. One driver named Awatef Aboudihaj, died in the accident. After the crash, Brandy was sued in separate lawsuits filed by Aboudihaj’s parents, children, and husband for more than $50 million.

Marilyn Manson is officially divorced from the model and burlesque dancer Dita Von Teese as of Thursday. The two have an undisclosed marital settlement. Cities Encouraging Residents to Go Green

Some cities are starting to offer incentives to get people to go green by offering free hybrid car parking, cash rebates for installing solar panels, low-interest loans for energy-saving home renovations, and offering money to tear up desert lawns and replace them with drought-resistant landscaping.

The city of Parkland is giving cash rebates to its residents for being more environmentally friendly by offering residents that install low-flow toilets or shower heads a $150 check. They pay a person replacing an old air conditioner with an energy-efficient one $100. They are paying people who buy a hybrid car $200.

Some states are offering rebates and incentives through tax breaks, loans, and letting hybrid car users to use car pool lanes. The federal government is also offering tax incentives for purchasing many of the hybrid cars on the market and buying energy-saving products.

Next year, San Francisco will offer homeowners rebates of up to $5,000 for installing solar panels if they choose to use a local contractor. The city will cover up to 90 percent of the costs of making apartment buildings more energy-efficient and will pay residents $150 to replace old appliances they have in their household. In Arizona, many cities will pay residents to replace grass with artificial turf or plants that would use less water.

Remy Ma Being Sued For Millions By Shooting Victim

The rapper Remy Ma is being sued for $20 million dollars by the woman she reportedly shot twice in the abdomen over money. Remy Ma had accused the woman of stealing $2,000 from her purse. The woman was hospitalized for more than two weeks after the shooting and had to have surgery and receive blood transfusions. She says that she will have to continue to need medical treatments. She says that the shooting made her disabled, anxious, and depressed.

Amy Winehouse Arrested

Singer Amy Winehouse was arrested this past Tuesday due to suspicion of attempting to interfere with a court case that involves her husband. She was questioned by police and released without charges filed against her. She went to the police station voluntarily at a pre-agreed time. Doctors Stop Rare Disease by Splitting Teen’s Brain in Two

In the United Kingdom, doctors split the brain of a teenage girl, named Janine Leach, in two to stop a rare brain-eating disease from spreading. The girl has a disorder called Rasmussen’s Encephalitis which could cause up to 100 seizures a day when surges of electricity in her brain could make her nervous system misfire. She went through the operation to stop the seizures. The operation involved cutting away the diseased half of her brain, but leaving still leaving it inside of her skull to prevent the increased risk of blood clots. The operation stopped the seizures but made her paralyzed on the left side of her body. The doctors say that with physical therapy she has the possibility to walk again in the future.

Mike Vick Sentenced to 23 Months in Prison

Back in August, Vick pleaded guilty to his part in a dogfighting operation that killed between six to eight dogs. Filipino Farmers Want Angelina Jolie’s Help

Filipino farmers are looking for help from the actress Angelina Jolie to call attention to the thousands of rural people who have been displaced by military operations. Actress Vivica A. Fox Booked For DUI

The actress Vivica A. Fox was booked for drunken driving that could cost her a $1,000 fine and as long as six months in jail. Couple Arrested in Medical Diagnosing Scam

A man, named Brent Eric Finley, was sentenced to more than four years in prison for scamming friends and family out of more than $800,000 by telling them that his wife was a government agent that could diagnose their medical problems through satellite imaging. He was sentenced in federal court to serve 51 months in prison and then three years of supervised release. His wife, Stacey Finley, was sentenced to 63 months in prison. The couple is ordered to pay $873,786.94 in restitution. The couple also pleaded guilty to wire fraud.

The couple told people that Stacey Finley was a CIA agent that had contacts that she could use to schedule a medical scan of the people’s bodies using satellite imaging that could detect any medical problems. They said that if any medical problems were found, secret agents would give them medicine while they were asleep if they paid them.

Woman Awarded Money For Waking During Surgery

On Wednesday, a court awarded a woman, from the southern Austrian province of Carinthia, $11,000 because five years ago she woke up during major abdominal surgery and was unable to tell the doctors how much pain she was in. She had originally demanded more than $57,000 in compensation for mental and physical suffering. The court rejected that amount because they said there wasn’t enough proof that the woman regained full consciousness during the operation. Her lawyer tried to argue the fact that the anesthesiologist forgot to attach a tube that was supposed to be used to keep the woman sedated. The woman said that she could fell the surgeons using a scalpel and other pieces of instruments but she wasn’t able to talk or move.

In Wisconsin, a high school chemistry teacher was arrested after posting an anonymous comment online praising the Columbine shooters. The teacher, named James, Buss, wrote how he felt that teachers were lazy and paid too much money for working 5 hours a day. The statement he made about the Columbine shooters was that “They knew how to deal with the overpaid teacher union. One shot at a time!” He also wrote that the shooters should be remembered as heroes.

The comment disturbed another teacher, who called the police. The police arrested Buss at his home last week after they received his Internet Provider address. He spent an hour in jail and then was released on $350 bail. The Washington County District Attorney is unsure whether to charge Buss with disorderly conduct and unlawful use of computerized communication systems or not. In Detroit, a 7 year old girl was shot six times after she jumped in front of her mother to protect her from an angry ex-boyfriend who was trying to kill her. The mother was first shot in the head and arm and then her daughter jumped in front of her and begged the ex-boyfriend to stop. The ex-boyfriend ended up shooting the girl 6 times. The child is currently in stable condition at Children’s Hospital in Detroit after getting shot in the eye, left temple, chin, cheek, chest, and right arm. The mother was admitted to the hospital and was later released. The ex-boyfriend was arrested at the scene of the crime.

4 People Arrested in Sean Taylor Murder

The Miami-Dade Police Department has arrested four men that were connected with the death of Washington Redskins football player Sean Taylor. The names and ages of the men are: Venjah K. Hunte, 20; Eric Rivera Jr., 17; Jason Scott Mitchell, 17; and Charles Kendrick Lee Wardlow, 18. Charges have not been determined yet but they will include murder and burglary. The four men were arrested on Friday in Southwest Florida. They will be booked into the Lee County Jail and returned to Miami. Sean Taylor died this past Tuesday, one day after being shot in his home. The men were supposedly trying to burglarize the home and didn’t think Taylor would be home. The suspects may be connected to the burglary that happened a week before the shooting.

Items to Be Sold From Luther Vandross Estate

Some items from the Luther Vandross Estate will go up for auction on December 5^th and 6^th. The singer died in 2005 at the age of 54. Items that are going up for auction include a Picasso charcoal drawing, mink coats, crystal vases, his handwritten lyrics to “Love Forgot,” his army green thermoses that he drank hot tea from during his concerts, designer loafers and boots, glasses, and doorknobs. The Items come from his previous homes in Beverley Hills, Greenwich, New York City, and his tours. The worth of all of the items auctioned is between $600,000 and $800,000.
