Germs Taken to Space Come Back Stronger and Deadlier
The germ Salmonella was put on a space shuttle and sent into space because scientists wanted to see how space travel has an affect on germs. Researchers found that 167 genes had changed in the salmonella that went into space. They say that the germs change genetically because they sensed that they were in new environment. When they fed mice the germs from space they were three times more likely to get sick and die than the mice that were fed germs that didn’t go into space.
Brain-Eating Amoeba Causes Deaths
It is reported that a brain-eating amoeba has been causing deaths and health scares. The amoeba gets into the body through the nasal cavity and destroys tissue as it moves toward the brain. You can get it by swimming in lakes, hot springs, and swimming pools. It lives in the bottom of the waters and lives off of algae and bacteria. People can get infected when they wade through the water and stir up the bottom of the water. It has infected and killed 23 people between 1995 and 2004. There have been several hundred cases worldwide since its discovery in 1960.
People that are infected complain about a stiff neck, headaches, and fevers. They soon show signs of brain damage and have hallucinations and changes in behavior. There is a very small chance of surviving and the infected die within two weeks.

Study Shows that Alcohol Increases Risk of Cancer
The study analyzed the drinking habits of 70,033 women and asked them various questions during health exams between the years 1978 and 1985. By the year 2004, 2,829 of those women had been diagnosed with breast cancer. The study found that women who had one or two drinks a day increased their risk by 10 percent and women who had more than three drinks a day increased their risk by 30 percent.
Experts think that alcohol raises hormone levels in the blood to levels that could cause cancer. Doctors say that other factors, such as genetics, obesity, and age are more important factors that can raise the risk of breast cancer.
Newborn Found with Pacifier Taped to Mouth at Daycare Center
An investigator went to the daycare center and heard muffled whining from the bathroom and found the baby boy’s mouth covered with two pieces to two-inch-wide clear packing tape over a pacifier. The child could have died, ingested the tape, aspirated, or had breathing problems. Two of the caretakers on duty admitted to what they did and admitted that they have done this before to children. Back in 2005, the same daycare was investigated after a child died from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) in the facility.
The facility cares for 24 children between the ages of 6 weeks and 5 years old. The facility is still under investigation. It is sad that you can’t trust some daycare centers.

How to Invest Wisely
First, you should find some information on how investing works. It is a good idea to go to the library and find books on investing. You can also visit sites, such as smartmoney.com and cnnmoney.com to find information.
When you decide where you want to invest, spread out your money by investing in more than one company or place. By doing this you can decrease your risk of a loss. It is a good idea to invest in companies of different sizes and industries. You can also invest in international markets.
You can hire a financial adviser to help you. You should find out if the adviser works on a commission or a fee basis and if they are affiliated with a mutual fund or bank. You can check an adviser’s credentials at cfp.net or napfa.org.
You should watch out for any type of fees associated with your investment. Mutual funds and stocks have operating fess. Be aware of high and low fees and types of investments that charge commissions. The less fees and commissions you pay the more profit you can make.
Now that you have learned about investments and fess, you should allow time for your money to grow before you thing about making any changes or adjustments. Investing is not a get rich quick scheme. It takes time, knowledge, and strategy. With the right elements, you can go very far with investing.

Baby Crib Recalls
In all of the deaths, the buyer had installed the drop-rail side of the crib upside down. This causes a gap in the crib that children can slide into and suffocate. There have been 55 reports of the crib’s drip side detaching or the hardware not holding the side to the crib. All of the cribs were made in China.
Back in June, about 40,000 Nursery-in-a-Box cribs, manufactured by Simplicity, were recalled because the assembly instructions didn’t explain correctly how to attach the drop side. The current recall involves mainly the Simplicity and Graco cribs made from January 1998 to May 2007. The recall involves many models and model numbers.
A person that owns one of these cribs should make sure that the drop side is installed right side up and is securely attached. The newer models have a flexible tab at the top of the lower track and a permanent stop at the bottom. The older models had a flexible tab at the bottom of the lower tracks.
The models that are recalled include: Aspen 3 in 1, Aspen 4 in 1, Nursery-in-a-Box, Crib N Changer, Combo, Chelsea, Pooh 4 in 1, Ultra 4 in 1, and Ultra 5 in 1. Simplicity is offering free repairs for cribs with older hardware.

Chrysler and Honda Vehicle Recalls
Chrysler has received about 20 complaints of vehicles having a delay in braking when the drivers tried to stop after going uphill. There has been one crash and no injuries reported. To fix this problem, the computer connected to the antilock brake system will be reprogrammed.
Honda is recalling more than 180,000 Civics from the 2006-2007 model years to fix a wheel-bearing seal that could possibly leak and cause a wheel fall of the car. The seal where the antilock brake sensor mounts to the rear wheel bearing could allow moisture and salt to leak into the wheel bearing and cause corrosion, which could make the wheel fall off and cause a car crash. They have received two complaints relating to this problem. No injuries were reported.

Killer Bees Attack New Orleans
The Department of Agriculture put traps along the north-south line throughout the state and at all of the deepwater ports to monitor the bees. Killer bees have the same venom as honeybees, but attack in groups instead of alone. They are also smaller than honeybees. If anyone sees a killer bee, it is recommended to find cover quickly.
Africanized bees first came from an experiment to increase honey production in Brazil that went wrong. A swarm escaped the lab in 1957 and went north. Then they mated with native bees. They reached Texas in 1990 and spread to California and Florida. They were first found in Louisiana in 2005.

Since 50 Cent is currently one of Interscope’s most popular artists, they say they are willing to increase their post-production budget. Music Industry experts expect that Kanye West will sell about 750,000 copies of his record this week and 50 Cent will sell about 600,000 copies without the Interscope purchase.

Burger King Will Have Healthier Kid’s Menu
The company is making a Kids Meal that will have the flame-broiled Tenders, organic unsweetened applesauce, and low-fat milk. The meal would have 305 calories and 8.5 grams of fat. They are also in the process of developing the BK Fresh Apple Fries, which are red apples that are cut to look like french fries and are served in the same containers as fries. They are not fried and are served without the skin and cold. They will only have 35 calories. Burger King will use U.S. grown apples that are cut and packaged in a clean and sterile environment. They will wash the apples with a pre-wash that contains lemon to prevent them from turning brown.
All of the changes and improvements are an effort to offer healthier options and make people more aware and cautious about what they eat and feed their children at fast-food restaurants. It will only be successful if the food tastes good and is filling. It may bring positive and healthy changes.
